The Stabile Student Center is both a renovation and addition to the School of Journalism at Columbia University in New York, a building originally designed by McKim, Meade & White. In addition to a lecture hall and offices, a large social hub was added.
One graphic component of this project included a large super-graphic in the lecture hall that was made from a series of steel panels. A custom typeface composed of letter O (basically, ellipses) was used in conjunction with a script to convert a photograph into a rasterized pattern. The image itself was taken of the street outside, rendering the wall "transparent."
